Want to run a second server without paying for a second plan? That’s exactly what the Server Splitter is for. In this guide, you will learn what server splitting is, how to split your server on the Tension panel, and some ideas for what to run on your new server.
What is server splitting?
Server splitting lets you divide your plan’s resources into multiple separate servers. Instead of one server using all of your RAM, CPU and disk, you choose how to share it out.
For example, if you have an 8GB plan, you could split it into a 6GB survival server and a 2GB creative server. Both servers run at the same time, on the same plan.
Each split is a completely separate server. It has its own console, its own files, its own IP and its own players. You are just deciding how your resources get shared between them.
What can I run on a split?
Splits are made for running more Minecraft servers. Some popular ideas:
- A second gamemode, for example survival on your main server and creative or minigames on the split
- A proxy like Velocity or BungeeCord, so you can connect your servers together into a network
- A test server, so you can try new plugins, mods and updates without breaking your main server
How to split your server
Go to the Splitter tab
On your server, head to the ” Splitter ” tab. Press the + button
This may look slightly different depending on the number of splits you currently have on your server. Name it and choose your resources
Give your new server a name and decide how much RAM, CPU and disk to give it. Whatever you assign here comes out of your main server, so don’t give away more than you can spare.Leave enough RAM for your main server! If you give too much away, your main server can run out of memory and crash. A vanilla survival server wants at least 2-3GB to run comfortably.
Create it!
Press Split Server and give it a moment to set up. Your new server will appear on your dashboard next to your main one, and you can use it just like any other server.

Changed your mind? You can remove a split whenever you like, and the resources go straight back to your main server.
Deleting a split also deletes its files, so download a backup first if there is anything on it you want to keep.

Will my servers slow each other down?
Each split only gets the resources you assign to it, so your creative server can’t steal the RAM you gave to survival. Just make sure each server has enough for what it’s running.
Can I run something other than Minecraft on a split?
No, splits are made for Minecraft. You can run any Minecraft server type we support, plus proxies like Velocity and BungeeCord if you want to build a network.
